Announcements & call-select

Voice announcements, floor messages and call-select

Every Lift Displays panel has a speaker, so the same system that shows floor information also speaks it. Announcements cover direction, doors, arrival and safety, each floor is announced by its name rather than a bare number, and on a standard lift a landing call can offer destination dispatch — call-select — so passengers choose their floor before they board.

What the lift announces

The system speaks the events that matter to a passenger. Direction of travel is announced as the lift sets off — going up or going down. Door messages cover doors opening and closing, along with prompts such as "please stand clear" and "keep fingers clear of the doors". On arrival the lift confirms the floor has been reached and announces the floor itself. A separate set of safety and status messages — out of service, fire service, overload, emergency stop and alarm — is available so the lift can speak its condition, not just its position. Announcements can play at the car and at the landings, wherever a panel is fitted.

Floors announced by name

Each floor is announced using the label you set for it — "Ground", "Reception", "Level 3" — so what passengers hear matches what they read on the display. These spoken floor clips are chosen in the configurator and distributed to every panel from the master unit, which keeps the wording consistent across the whole building.

Choosing and customising the audio

Announcements are selected from a library of clear, pre-recorded clips, grouped by purpose so the right message is easy to pick for each floor, status or event. Where a building needs particular wording or a specific voice, custom clips can be added alongside the standard library. Because the master unit distributes the audio to every panel over the standard network cable, all stations speak with one consistent voice and nothing is recorded or programmed on site.

Call-select: destination dispatch from a landing

On a standard lift, a landing call button can be set to Call-Select. Instead of a simple up or down call, pressing the button brings up a destination floor roller so the passenger selects where they are going before the lift arrives — destination dispatch. Optionally, the chosen floor is announced as it is picked, confirming the destination by voice as well as on screen. Call-select is set per landing station in the configurator, so you can enable it where it helps passengers and keep simple call buttons elsewhere on the same lift.

When call-select applies

Call-select is a feature of standard passenger lifts. On platform and service lifts, which use hold-to-run control, destination dispatch does not apply, so the option is simply not offered. The operating mode is chosen once in the configurator and every panel adapts to it, which is why the same hardware suits a standard passenger lift, a platform lift or a goods lift without changing parts.

Status shown and spoken together

The same events are presented visually and audibly at once. When the lift is out of service, in fire-service mode or overloaded, the displays show the state and the speaker announces it, so the information reaches passengers who are looking at the panel and those who are not. Pairing a clear visual indicator with a spoken message is central to the accessibility expectations of EN 81-70, and it is built into every station rather than added as an option.

Frequently asked questions

What voice announcements are available?

Direction (going up and going down), door messages (doors opening and closing, please stand clear, lift overloaded), arrival (floor reached and the floor announced by name), and safety and status messages (out of service, fire service, overload, emergency stop and alarm).

Are floors announced by number or by name?

By the label you set for each floor — such as "Ground", "Reception" or "Level 3" — matching exactly what is shown on the display.

Can we use our own recordings?

Yes. Custom audio clips can be added alongside the standard library and distributed to every panel from the master unit, so a building can have its own wording or voice.

What is call-select?

On a standard lift, a landing call can show a destination floor roller so the passenger picks their floor when they call — destination dispatch — rather than only choosing a direction of travel. On lift arrival to the floor the call select destinations are automatically input on car panel.

Can call-select announce the chosen floor?

Yes. With call-select enabled, the panel can speak the selected floor as it is picked, confirming the destination by voice as well as on screen.

Is call-select available on every lift?

It applies to standard passenger lifts. On platform and service lifts, which use hold-to-run control, destination dispatch does not apply and the option is not offered.

Do the announcements need a cloud connection?

No. The messages are held in the configuration and distributed to the panels by the master unit over own network, so they play without any external service.

Do all panels announce, or only the car?

Every panel has a speaker, so announcements play at any device that has had audio announce selected. individual devices can be set to play certain messages only, and announcement volume is adjusted day to day from the caretaker controls.

Not sure which announcements you need?

Tell us about the lift and how it is used and we will recommend the messages, floor wording and whether call-select suits it.
